Combi Boiler Installation in East Dulwich

The Brief

A family home in East Dulwich had an aging regular boiler with a hot water cylinder taking up half a cupboard on the upstairs landing. The system worked, but it was inefficient, the hot water ran out on busy mornings, and the cupboard was prime storage space the family wanted back. They asked us to look at the options for going combi without losing flow rate.

What We Did

• Full survey first: We measured radiator output, checked the gas meter and incoming pipe size, looked at mains pressure and flow rate, and confirmed a high-output combi could meet the family's two-bathroom hot water demand without a cylinder.
• Talked through the options: Two boiler shortlist with different warranty terms. We laid out the pros and cons of each, the warranty conditions, and the running cost difference.
• Stripped out the old system: Day one was the strip-out. Old boiler, hot water cylinder, cold water tank, and obsolete pipework all removed and disposed of responsibly. The cupboard came back as usable storage immediately.
• First-fix pipework: Re-routed the heating circuit and added a magnetic system filter to catch sludge before it shortens the new boiler's life. Upgraded the gas pipe at the meter end where required for the new boiler's burner load.
• New boiler installed and commissioned: High-efficiency combi fitted at the original boiler position, flue routed to the existing exit, all gas joints leak-tested, system filled and pressure-tested. Full commissioning per manufacturer spec.
• Smart controls fitted: A smart thermostat with weather compensation now drives the heating, replacing the old mechanical timer.
• Walk-through and handover: Showed the family how to operate the controls, registered the warranty on their behalf, and left them with the manual and Building Regulations notice.

The Result

A modern high-efficiency combi delivering hot water on demand to two bathrooms simultaneously without losing pressure. Heating bills dropped noticeably in the first cold spell. The cupboard that used to house the cylinder is back to being a normal cupboard. The boiler is registered for its full manufacturer warranty term, conditional only on annual servicing, which we have already booked in for the same month next year.
